What Is Delano Bats?
Delano Bat Company is a small startup out of the Midwest. The brand started in the solid wood bat market, and kept hearing the same thing from loyal customers: they didn’t love the feel or sound of alloy or composite bats, but switching to wood meant giving up performance and durability. They created and patented the FZN Composite Core technology, with the idea being a bat with the true look, feel, and sound of wood, but the performance and durability of a modern composite, giving players the “best of both worlds.”
One detail that sets their approach apart from other wood composites on the market is the fact that the full length of the bat starts as a solid maple billet, turned on a lathe and hardened the same way traditional solid wood bats have been made for decades, not just a composite bat with a wood veneer. Delano describes it as the most genuinely “wood” bat in the wood composite category.
Delano Bats’ The Original Gamer
The flagship bat, The Original Gamer, is a BBCOR bat (drop -3), made in the USA, and comes in four sizes: 34″/31oz, 33″/30oz, 32″/29oz, and 31″/28oz, with a 2 5/8″ barrel (the max allowed under BBCOR). The last Delano bat drop sold out within minutes and we were lucky enough to get our hands on one. This wood-compliant baseball bat truly gives the metal-like pop while providing beautiful wood aesthetics and feel. We were impressed with its quality build and its ability to consistently hit the ball hard.
After taking about 100 swings, our son commented on the balanced feel even with the large barrel. It’s become his go-to bat whether competing in local league games or wood bat tournaments out of state. We tend to say on top of the newest bats, and this was an instant favorite worth every penny.

What Does Bat Drop Mean?
If you’re new to shopping for bats, “drop” is one of the first things you’ll see, and it trips a lot of parents up. Drop is simply the bat’s length in inches minus its weight in ounces. A 33-inch bat weighing 30 ounces has a drop of -3 (33 minus 30 = 3, and drop numbers are always written as negative). The Original Gamer is a drop -3 bat, which is the standard for BBCOR play at the high school and college level.
Younger players in USA Baseball or USSSA leagues typically use bats with a much bigger drop, drop 10 or drop 11 is common, since a bigger drop means a lighter bat relative to its length, built for a smaller, still-developing swing. If your child isn’t playing high school or college ball yet, a drop -3 BBCOR bat like this one is almost certainly not the right pick.
