So, when we started seeing people everywhere asking is Toys R Us coming back, we got a little sentimental knowing the answer is yes, and in a big way. Toys R Us holds a special spot in our hearts. When our kids were little, we planned special Toys R Us days. The day would start off with lunch at their favorite restaurant (Red Robin, of course), and end with endlessly walking through the aisles of our local Toys R Us. They would o with their little kid-themed wallets with gift card or birthday money in hand. We’d gladly let them take their time deciding exactly how they wanted to spend their money. Those planned trips gave us some of our favorite family memories, the kind we are grateful we made time for.
Is there anything better than walking into a real toy store? We do not think so, and we love that a new generation of kids gets to build their own version of that memory.
Is Toys R Us Coming Back? Here’s What’s Actually Happening
Yes, Toys R Us is coming back in 2026. The retailer announced this week (September 17th, 2026) that it is opening 120 new standalone stores across the US in time for the 2026 holiday season. That brings its total standalone US store count to 160, the brand’s biggest expansion since it filed for bankruptcy back in 2017.
This Toys R Us reopening is happening through a partnership with Go! Retail Group. New stores will carry toys, collectibles and gifts from brands like LEGO, Barbie, Pokemon and even KPop Demon Hunters merchandise. Some locations will also include candy shops, cafes, and Creator Studios. Creator Studios are dedicated spaces where content creators and toy brands can film product reveals. That concept is set to debut at five pilot locations, including American Dream in New Jersey and Mall of America in Minnesota, before the company decides how far to expand it.
Toys R Us has not released a list of the new store addresses or opening dates yet. Executive Vice President Jamie Uitdenhowen called it a major moment for the brand in the company’s announcement.
For now, we will take it as good news for anyone hoping to make their own toy aisle memories with their kids this year.
Shop While You Wait
