There’s a new Louisville Slugger Select PWR coming, and if your hitter is the type who prefers a power-focused bat with some barrel behind it, this is one release worth watching. Louisville Slugger has confirmed that the 2027 Select PWR BBCOR drops September 2, and they’re already calling it “a new look for the bat power hitters can’t get enough of.” Here’s everything confirmed so far, what we still need to learn, and what I’d be watching once it actually lands.

What’s Actually Changing

A New Look for 2027

The most obvious confirmed change so far is the look. Louisville Slugger is already teasing the 2027 Select PWR ahead of its September 2 release, and visually, this is clearly a new version of the bat rather than simply another listing for the outgoing model.

What Louisville Slugger hasn’t done yet is give us the full launch-day breakdown of every construction or performance change. That’s important, because a new paint job doesn’t automatically mean a completely redesigned bat.

The Hybrid Construction Should Feel Familiar

The Select PWR has traditionally lived in Louisville Slugger’s hybrid lineup, pairing a metal barrel with a separate handle rather than using the one-piece alloy construction found on something like the Atlas. The pre-release information we’ve found for the 2027 model still lists a metal barrel, and nothing we’ve seen so far suggests Louisville Slugger is changing the basic identity of the bat.

That’s good news if your hitter already likes what the Select PWR is trying to do. Hybrid construction can help give a power-focused bat a different feel at contact than a stiff one-piece alloy, though I’ll want to see the final construction details before making any bigger claims about how the 2027 version compares with the 2026 bat.

Still Built With Power Hitters in Mind

The positioning hasn’t changed. Louisville Slugger itself is still describing the Select PWR as a bat for power hitters, and honestly, that’s the part of this release that matters most.

This isn’t necessarily the Louisville Slugger bat I’d point every hitter toward. The Select PWR makes the most sense for stronger players who actually want some barrel presence and have the bat speed to control it. More barrel mass can be an advantage in the right hands, but only if the hitter isn’t fighting the bat through the zone.

The Real Numbers

  • Model: 2027 Louisville Slugger Select PWR BBCOR
  • Model Code: BBSPB3-27
  • Construction: Hybrid, with a metal barrel and separate handle
  • Sizes: 31″, 32″, 32.5″, 33″, 33.5″, 34″
  • Certification: BBCOR (-3)
  • Release Date: September 2, 2026

I especially like seeing the 32.5″ and 33.5″ options in the size run. Those half-inch sizes give hitters a little more flexibility when they’re stuck between lengths and don’t necessarily want to make a full one-inch jump.

2027 Select PWR vs. 2027 Atlas 2.0

This may end up being one of the more useful Louisville Slugger comparisons this season because these two bats are trying to do very different things.

The 2027 Louisville Slugger Atlas 2.0 is the more balanced, easier-to-control one-piece alloy option. The Select PWR sits on the other side of the spectrum, with the hybrid construction and power-focused identity stronger hitters have traditionally looked for from this line.

  • Atlas 2.0: Better fit for hitters prioritizing balance, bat speed and control
  • Select PWR: Better fit for stronger hitters who prefer more barrel presence and a power-oriented feel

That doesn’t automatically make one bat better. It makes fit more important. A smaller or speed-first hitter probably doesn’t gain anything from forcing a heavier power bat through the zone. On the flip side, a stronger hitter who likes feeling the barrel may find the Select PWR much more natural.

If the Atlas sounds like the better fit, the 2027 Louisville Slugger Atlas 2.0 BBCOR is already available on Amazon.

Should You Wait for It?

Here’s my honest take, without a bat in hand yet: if the 2027 Select PWR is already at the top of your hitter’s list, I’d wait.

September 2 is close enough that it makes sense to see the complete launch details before spending several hundred dollars on a new BBCOR bat. We still need final confirmation on exactly what Louisville Slugger changed beyond the new look, and that’s the kind of information I’d want before deciding whether the newest model is worth paying a premium for.

The exception is the 2026 Select PWR on Amazon. New-model launches are exactly when I start watching outgoing bats for price drops, and if the 2026 version gets discounted enough, the value argument could get interesting very quickly.

I’ll have more answers once the 2027 bat is actually available, but so far, this looks like a release worth watching closely for hitters who already know they prefer a power-focused hybrid.

How to Actually Get One
