After 10+ years at the ballpark, I have learned it’s best to have everything right by your side, especially when you’re at the ballpark for 8+ hours. Everything on this list has earned its spot in my bag through trial, error, and a few very long tournament weekends. This is not a packing list built from a spreadsheet. It is what I actually pack, every single game, every single season.

If you are new to sports mom life or just tired of digging through your trunk looking for things, start here.

The Gooderie’s Top Picks

Yeti Camino 35

BEST OVERALL BAG

YETI Camino 35 Carryall

The bag I actually own and use every single season. Waterproof, wipeable, and holds everything without looking like you packed for a week. Pricey but worth the overall investment because it stands up to everything you throw at it, and in it.

Stanley IceFlow 2.0

BEST TUMBLER

Stanley IceFlow 2.0 Flip Straw Tumbler

Cold for hours on the sideline. The flip straw lid means one-handed drinking while you’re juggling a chair, a bag, and your phone. My favorite part is it keeps my iced coffee cold all day long, which is great for those 6am wake-up calls to be to the field by 8am.

Brawntide Outdoor Blanket

HERO MOM PICK

Brawtide Waterproof Stadium Blanket

For those 8am games when it is still 50 degrees and everyone else is freezing because the weather showed high 80s for the day. This one packs down small and comes out a hero.

The Bag

I have tried a lot of bags over ten years and the YETI Camino 35 is the one I stopped looking after. Waterproof, wipeable, and it actually stays organized. However, these other picks are just as good!

If you are heading into a full tournament weekend, our Sports Mom Travel Essentials list covers everything you need beyond game day.

What to Pack in Your Sports Mom Bag

Hydration

Bring more water than you think you need, especially on tournament days. I also keep Liquid I.V. packets in the bag for the really brutal summer stretches. Not only for me, but for my player, too.

Phone Charger

Your phone will die at the field, usually right when you need it most. Keep a slim power bank in the front pocket and do not forget your charging cord.

Sunscreen

Sun Bum SPF 50 spray is my go-to because it goes on fast and does not feel greasy. Bring more than one because your kid will need it too.

Bug Spray

Non-negotiable for evening games, spring ball, or any field near trees and water. OFF! Deep Woods is what I reach for because it actually lasts.

Hat or Visor

A visor keeps the sun out of your face without flattening your hair after a long day. The Adidas Superlite is the one I keep going back to. I love a high pony, which is perfect for this visor. When I want to wear my hair down or off my neck, a low bun with a cute hat is the go-to.

Cooling Towel

Sounds like overkill until you are standing in full sun at a July tournament with zero shade. Wet it, snap it, wear it around your neck. I pack multiple so my son has one for the dug out, and we stay cool on the sideline.

Packable Blanket

April games and late fall seasons catch people off guard every year. This one lives in the bottom of my bag from opening day through the last tournament.

First Aid Kit

A small kit handles most of what comes up at the field. You will be glad it is there.

Snacks

Pack for yourself, not just the kids. CLIF Bars are my default because they hold up in the heat and actually keep you full.

Stain Remover Pen

Mustard, dirt, grass, sports drink on a white shirt. The Tide To Go Pen lives in my bag permanently.

Hand Wipes

Between snacks, after sunscreen, after digging through the bag. Always within reach.

Hair Ties and Claw Clips

Always have extras. You will need one and so will someone standing near you at some point this season.

If you are still building out your game day look, the Sports Mom Capsule Wardrobe covers the 12 pieces every sports mom needs in her closet.

The Hero Mom Extras

These are the things nobody thinks to pack until the moment they desperately need them. Bring them once and they never leave your bag again.

For the full wardrobe side of game day, the Baseball Mom Capsule Wardrobe is worth a look too.

Packable Rain Poncho — A pop-up storm can end a game or just make you miserable for two hours. A poncho takes up almost no space and you will be the most popular person at the field when it starts pouring.

Travel Dry Shampoo — Tournament weekend. Day two. Enough said.

Blister Bandages — New sneakers, long days on your feet, walking between fields. Compeed pads are the ones that actually stay on and do not peel off mid-game.

Arnica Roll-On — Six hours on concrete bleachers will catch up with you. The Arnicare Roll-On fits easily in any bag and works fast on sore legs and achy joints.

Antacid Chews — Ballpark food happens. TUMS pocket rolls are tiny, they travel well, and they earn their spot every single time.

Ear Plugs — Indoor tournaments, loud gyms, or just a long weekend when you need five minutes of quiet. No further explanation needed.

Handheld Fan — For the peak of summer when there is zero breeze and you are melting. A small rechargeable fan is worth every penny.
